Top 5 pieces of advice for art directors

I’ve been lucky enough to have some wonderful mentors in my career. Here their top pieces of advice.

1.

Take each piece of creative presented to you as a gift. Someone put time and care to craft it. See the strengths and build on them.

2.

Focus on one step at a time and you can do anything.

3.

Set yourself certain deadlines while working. Get the rough structure of the creative together first and then start refining. This way your work can be reviewed at any point during the design process.

4.

The power of positive feedback. Telling people when they are doing great and encouraging them to go beyond, strengthen their confidence and the results are amazing.

5.

Ask and listen.
